When will Europe be United?

Henrik Ibsen, A Doll's House

Every country in Europe and even our ‘Union’ brought the European conscience to the point of opposition or indifference for its very highest – but, as Plato warned, it is not possible for the conscience to have a real unity, when it is stalled in underdevelopment , even if not always reaching to perfect lowness, even if dressed as ‘aesthetic’, ‘humanitarian’, ‘peaceful’, ‘scientific’, ‘civilized’, etc. What is it that would bring satisfaction and integrity in a soul paralyzed for its very best?

If it is impossible for a people disregarding its very highest, to care for various values and for a real unity with other peoples or with itself, the problem with Europe from the start to the end is essentially religious.

Some understand this, and invest their hope to the union of the Churches. For reasons explained elsewhere, I believe in the closest possible cooperation of the Churches, but with a conscious and explicit avoidance of their union – yet, whatever variation one may favor, the future of Europe depends to the Churches primarily, if not exclusively.

Given the speed of the historical developments, the relevant decisions and actions of the Churches need to have the speed of a thunder, otherwise the future of the European Union will be shorter even than the most pessimistic views foresee.

Very Good. Rely on the power of God to revive Faith. Remember Deuteronomy 28. We must learn from the Bible that a people called to Glorify God will perish when they forget God.
