Christmas with Rilke

Henrik Ibsen, A Doll's House

How could I expect the divine presence, blessing, power and love in another time or place or conditions when I know that He is right now right here, that He is from the very first moment, namely that He whom I long for or say that I long for, was never missing, never was He even a little away, but continually is as always a breath within me Himself, with all His power left to the uncertain time of my own will?

Knowing this, if I know it, I acquire authenticity of faith, without which a man can not have real criteria to recognise truth, advice becomes meaningless, and atheism remains the ultimate and sad refuge of some hope. When man, as God has his power internal, in himself longing for Him away from everyone and everything, at this point of a love absolute  and mystical, Rilke says, He who was previously almost passive in man, turns His power to work and manifests Himself in every possible way: inside the Significance of His power, that He finds here, and only here can He find, He creates the existence whole and complete.

Do not wait, God to come to you and
“I exist” to tell you.
A God, who manifests His strength,
has no meaning at all.
You must know, that God is blowing inside you,
from the very beginning,
And if your heart is on fire and nothing betrays,
within you He creates.
