A child’s prayer

Here are a few lines from a new poem Lee Evans published at the Meister Eckhart Site. The poem is about a child who, in the midst of false religiousness and hypocrisy, prays to be with Him, “whose heart beats in the life of all, / yet dwells in blessed dark above / this world where mind and senses crawl.” – Full text of Evans’ poem

The child “Who could not see or speak or hear” became a teacher? Otherwise, how can he teach me how to pray?

If this child became a teacher, he became one indirectly, by way of example. One can learn from him by voiding oneself of all created things, including ones ego or self; for only the Word can pray a true prayer, and this Word is spoken in us when we do everything we can to prepare ourselves for its utterance. “Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” What does this mean, except to “get out of God’s way,” as Eckhart said, “and let God be God in you.” Before this happens we must become like this child, and void our eyes and ears and tongue, our minds and wills, and prepare a path in the wilderness for the utterance of the unutterable Word.
I know that this is not a direct answer, but I hope that it will at least point you in the direction in which I was attempting to go.
