Λέει ἕνας γέροντας ὅτι ἂν κάποιος δὲν ἔχει πνευματικό, τότε ἂς ἔχει τὸν ἴδιο τὸν Χριστό.
Ἡ προτροπὴ στηρίζεται σὲ κυριολεξία: πράγματι μπορεῖ κανεὶς νὰ ἔχει γιὰ πνευματικό του τὸν Χριστό, ἀλλὰ αὐτὸ συνεπάγεται καὶ μειονεκτήματα.
Μεγάλο πλεονέκτημα εἶναι ὅτι στὸν Χριστὸ δὲν χρειάζεται κἂν νὰ ὁμολογήσεις ἁμαρτίες καὶ προβλήματα, ἐφόσον ἤδη τὰ γνωρίζει. Ἑπομένως δὲν κινδυνεύεις νὰ τὸν ξεγελᾶς… Ἐξίσου σοβαρὸ πλεονέκτημα ὅτι γνωρίζει ἀλάθητα πῶς νὰ σὲ κατευθύνει κάθε φορά, κλπ.
Τὸ μεγάλο μειονέκτημα εἶναι ὅτι (συνήθως) παραμένει ἀόρατος καὶ ἄφωνος. Ἑπομένως γιὰ νὰ σὲ στρέψει ἐδῶ ἢ ἐκεῖ ἀνάλογα μὲ τὶς πνευματικές σου ἀνάγκες, δὲν μπορεῖ νὰ σὲ βάλει κάτω καὶ νὰ σοῦ ἐξηγήσει πῶς ἔχουν τὰ πράγματα, ἀλλὰ χρειάζεται νὰ χρησιμοποιήσει σημεῖα, τὰ ὁποῖα γιὰ νὰ καταλάβεις συχνὰ χρειάζεται νὰ γίνει βίαιος.
Ἐκεῖ ποὺ ὁ γέροντας θὰ σοῦ ἔλεγε, γιὰ παράδειγμα, μή συναντήσεις αὐτὸν ἢ μή κάνεις ἐκεῖνο, ὁ Χριστὸς μπορεῖ νὰ σοῦ στείλει ἀρρώστια γιὰ νὰ σὲ ἐμποδίσει, ἢ κάποιο ἄλλο πόνο. Ἐξυπακούεται ἡ ἀνάγκη νὰ σκεφτεῖς τὸ γεγονός, διαφορετικὰ μετατρέπεται σὲ κάτι τυχαῖο, σὲ μιὰ ‘συμφορά.’
Ἑπομένως, ὅσοι ἐπέλεξαν νὰ ἔχουν τὸν Ἴδιο ἄμεσα γιὰ πνευματικό τους, δὲν βρίσκονται σὲ πιὸ χαλαρὴ ἀλλὰ σὲ πιὸ αὐστηρὴ πειθαρχία, ποὺ κάποτε μοιάζει νὰ πλησιάζει στὰ ὅρια μεγάλης σκληρότητας…

Είμαστε σε θέση πάντοτε να σκεφτούμε το «επελθόν» με ψυχραιμία, ερμηνευτική τάξη και διαύγεια; Στην περίπτωση που δεν είμαστε, η οποία δεν μπορεί να αποκλεισθεί, η ορθότητα ή μη των συμπερασμάτων μας πως θα διερευνηθεί ή πως θα επικυρωθεί;

Ὅσο δὲν καταλαβαίνουμε, κάνουμε ἁπλὴ ὑπομονή. Ἤδη ὅμως τὸ γεγονὸς τῆς ὑπομονῆς καὶ ἀναμονῆς εἶναι ἡ ἀρχὴ τῆς ἐξήγησης. Ἔστω ἀγνοῶντας τί ἀκριβῶς συμβαίνει, τουλάχιστον δὲν νομίζουμε ὅτι πρόκειται γιὰ ‘κακοτυχία’, ‘συμφορά’, κλπ., τὸ ὁποῖο εἶναι ἀπολύτως σημαντικό, ἔχοντας ἀπομακρύνει πλῆθος δυνατοτήτων γιὰ αὐταπάτη. Ἄλλωστε, κι ἂν ἕνας ἄλλος μποροῦσε νὰ ἐξηγήσει κάτι τόσο προσωπικό μας, ἐφόσον δὲν τὸ κατανοοῦμε οἱ ἴδιοι, ποιά ἡ ὠφέλεια; Σκοπὸς δὲν εἶναι νὰ πληροφορούμαστε τὸν βίο μας σὰν νὰ ἀνῆκε σὲ κάποιον ἄλλο, σκοπὸς εἶναι νὰ ἔρθουμε οἱ ἴδιοι σιγὰ σιγὰ σὲ ἐξοικείωση μὲ τὸν ἑαυτό μας καὶ μὲ ὅσα συμβαίνουν γιὰ νὰ μᾶς βοηθήσουν.
