In the West, it is rare to see movies that present Christianity under a positive light, much more so those that depict the life of a saint. This is why this Italian movie is particularily delighting: it narrates the life of St. Anthony of Padua, the son of a Portugues noble who gave up all material goods to become a Fransiscan monk, at a time when the movement was seen as a reaction against the excess of the medieval Catholic Church, whether wealth or scholasticism. It is a good movie, and will certainly provide a model of virtue and simplicity in our times of excesses of all kinds.
