Going to the wiki-page of ‘Macedonia’ one can discover that FYROM has more poets, sculptors, painters, composers, scientists, and any great profession, than all the European countries together! Assuming this information is correct, I just wonder about the quality of the thinking of all these ‘creators’. I wonder, what kind of a poet or scientist would choose to live a life of hypocrisy and deep self-contempt?

What is it, if not hypocrisy, to build statues of Alexander the Great, when you will to ignore even his identity and culture? Do ‘Macedonians’ speak Greek? Do they teach Greek to their children? Do they want their children to love Homer and Plato? Then why all this noise about Alexander the Great and the rest? What is the reason of such a hypocrisy, if not lack of self-esteem and the denial of a life that could be creative?

Transforming a territorial coincidence into (a pretension of) a cultural identity does not reveal only disdain for the international community, nor is this the most important. What matters is that an opportunist and nihilistic mentality possessed or tends to possess a whole country, hindering even the possibility of its cultural growth.

All of these happen, when ‘Macedonians’ are Slavs and speak a Slavic type of language, for which they should be proud not ashamed! Slavs have already a long and creative history, what is the mad ‘reason’ of ‘Macedonians’ to despise this history, pretending what they are not, what they don’t even want to be!!!?…

Cf. Who is a Macedonian?

Many thanks for this post from a high school teacher planning student visit to Vergina and Thessaloniki. Your inspired note was welcomed from my pupils.
